De-Technologizing the IPod docking station

It seems that Apple and their associated IPod accessories have been the hot topic of conversation these past few weeks. So, as part of our detechnologizing assignment, I’ve created a no-tech version of the IPod Docking Station (and its various portable and non-portable derivatives). Perhaps it’s a symptom of the fact that I grew up in the 80′s, or perhaps it’s the fact that I don’t need the latest technology to satisfy my audio cravings, but I don’t see wires as a bad thing. Why have a docking station, when all you need is a stand and a wire? If you can plug in your ipod to your computer which already has a sound system, or if you already have a stereo that just needs a converter, why bother buying a whole new super large, overly designed piece of technological redundancy?

In the spirit of the clean image of the IPod, with a dash of sculptural idiosyncracy, I’ve designed an object which essentially cradles the ipod and guides the wire to the stereo system without the bulkiness of a dockingstation, all for the price of 1.29 and a bit of artistic sensibility…not to mention a very teeny tiny, non-existant carbon footprint (for the object itself, electricity not included).

So, here is essentially what we have now and what I chose to de-tech:

here is how to make your own party paper lanterns.

materials : origami paper, christmas lights
time it takes: depends on your folding skills, and the amount of lanterns you wish to make.

step 1. buy small origami paper, approximately 6″ x 6″

step 2. buy a set of christmas lights

step 3. make your own origami paper lanterns, using this great instructional video

step 4. attach the balloons to the lights via the blow-hole

step 5. hang and enjoy!
